AiO OOBE
AiO OOBE. No, I am not trying to talk like an Ewok. What I am referring to is the All-in-One Out of Box Experience.
An Out of Box Experience or OOBE (not to be confused with an Out of Body Experience) is the experience you have when you first open a new product and set it up for use.
One of my best OOBE's was when I got my desktop computer. It came in a shiny white box with giant pictures of flowers on the the side. The computer practically jumped out of the box and shook my hand. It was a good OOBE.
Since I recently acquired a new Kodak EasyShare 5300 All-in-One Printer, I thought I would record the Out of Box Experience on video. With the help of a Gorillapod, I captured the entire adventure with my V705. I edited the video on the aforementioned computer and got a little carried away. The video comes complete with soothing music, titles and transitions. Quite possibly Academy Award material.
If you are interested you can watch 6 minutes of me pulling my printer out of a box and snapping in ink cartridges. Have a good laugh while I realize I put the calibration print on the scanner upside down. I personally find it fascinating... my thumbs bend in a way I hadn't noticed before. My cat, Stewie also makes an appearance, sniffing the box and getting in the way.
Overall, I had a great OOBE with the 5300. Other than the scads of little orange stickers that need peeled off... which is very difficult with one hand. (I didn't think of the Gorillapod until halfway through recording) I found it is best to follow the directions that are included to the letter. There is a reason why you don't connect the USB cable before you plug in the power cable.
I see many happy printing days ahead of me. Stay tuned for printer projects, tips and more inkjet information every Friday on TGIIF.
